24, Season 3 — An Extract

IT Support Lady: “We’re starting to overload the network. When the virus threat came in, we had to start stealing cycles from the main CPU.”
Michelle: “Offload the archive files and send them to division. That should free up the network.”
IT Support Lady: “Fine, that’s all I needed to know.”

That oughta do it.

What Are You? Colourblind?

Colourblind Cartoon

The Rut’s ‘This cartoon just blue its brains out’. There are many other great cartoons in the archives, so I’d definitely recommend having a dig through.

Spammed With Art

I’ve been enjoying Linzie Hunter’s Spam One-Liners for the past few weeks, in which she beautifully illustrates junk emails as a piece of art in their own right. I kept thinking they would make brilliant posters, but unfortunately they weren’t posted at a high enough resolution to make a sneaky print from. Luckily, obviously being an entrepreneurial gal, she’s put a handful up at the Thumbtack Press for purchase. Now you can let everyone know just what you’d have to do if you were any bigger, amongst other things.

In Which My Keyboard Love Is Dashed

After a couple of minutes of the fire alarm ringing, from the office IRC channel…

[14:33] will: Maybe we should leave the building…
[14:33] tony: Arrgh, Fi0rs!
[14:33] greg: save the new keyboards!
[14:34] tony: I suspect they would survive, except for the keys of course.
[14:35] will: In the same way I would survive a fire through my teeth.
[14:35] will: Invincible!
[14:35] will: (subject to alternate definitions of life)

Even though they probably wouldn’t survive a fire, the new Apple keyboards really are rather nice.

Mustache? Mustache!

There are few things I enjoy more than a bit of comedy facial hair. So, imagine my joy when I happened across this dapper slug balancer par excellence recently:

Mustachioed gent

Five o’clock shadow it is not. I can only imagine what it looks like first thing in the morning. Well done that man!

Computer & Wifi Names

Trendsetter that he is, co-29degrees’er Will has started a meme on network and computer names following John Gruber’s post.

I would love to report that mine are all named affectionately after saucy female conquests (claudia, delilah, naughtynora, etc) — but that would be a bare-faced lie. Instead, they were christened after places I visited around the time I set them up. I have a “geneva”, a “banus” a “barcelona” and, from before I started doing that, a “gatsby”, as in The Great. With any luck, “skegness” will be up next.

My office machine is called “snarf” as, for a reason that seemed sensible at the time, we opted for Thundercats for our hardware naming “scheme”.

My wifi network is fairly unimaginatively just called “cloud”, although I’m tempted to change that to “tehinternets”.

Should they care to play, I’ll pass this on to Adam Brault (in an attempt to get a post out of him), Adam McMaster, Derren Wilson, Steven Garrity and Paul Nixon.

My Simpsons Avatar

It's me! Well, almost.

Ahem, in a kinda downtrodden way. Create your own at the Simpsons Movie site.

Ed – I re-did myself. The other one scared me when I looked at it again!
