Mainly because I was curious how they’d turn out, and because they really are rather cheap, I ordered some Moo cards of some of my photos recently. They arrived today and, I have to say, I’m really impressed with the whole process.

Every step is extremely well considered, and they’ve really gone the extra mile to make what is essentially a dull activity simple and fun. The integration with Flickr is particularly well handled.

If I were doing it again, I would stick to really colourful photos only, as black and white and more muted colours didn’t turn out as well. I suspect bumping up the colours almost excessively would give even punchier results, but at these prices it’s not really an issue if some turn out less well.

Aside from that, I don’t really have a use for the cards so, if you’d like a few, let me know.

Computer & Wifi Names

Trendsetter that he is, co-29degrees’er Will has started a meme on network and computer names following John Gruber’s post.

I would love to report that mine are all named affectionately after saucy female conquests (claudia, delilah, naughtynora, etc) — but that would be a bare-faced lie. Instead, they were christened after places I visited around the time I set them up. I have a “geneva”, a “banus” a “barcelona” and, from before I started doing that, a “gatsby”, as in The Great. With any luck, “skegness” will be up next.

My office machine is called “snarf” as, for a reason that seemed sensible at the time, we opted for Thundercats for our hardware naming “scheme”.

My wifi network is fairly unimaginatively just called “cloud”, although I’m tempted to change that to “tehinternets”.

Should they care to play, I’ll pass this on to Adam Brault (in an attempt to get a post out of him), Adam McMaster, Derren Wilson, Steven Garrity and Paul Nixon.

Kayak
A really powerful flight search tool. I really like the interactive sliders for refining flight times, trip durations and the like. I'm surprised I haven't heard of this before!
Lab Tick
Manually adjust the keyboard brightness on Apple laptops - something that's not supported by the OS.
HostsWidget
Allows manipulation of /etc/hosts right from the dashboard. It also flushes the DNS cache automatically.
Zattoo
Live streaming of pretty much all UK terrestrial channels. It seems to work really well.
